Fred Frumberg moved to Cambodia in June '97 as a consultant with UNESCO, to assist in the revival and preservation of Cambodian traditional and contemporary performing arts. His task has been to built capacity in all aspects of theater management, from the staging of public performances to research and documentation and organizing international tours and exchange programs throughout Asia, Europe, the US and Australia. In July 2003 Fred founded AMRITA Performing Arts, a non-profit organization based in Phnom Penh to continue these efforts and introduce an element of contemporary creativity. Prior to Cambodia, Fred spent fifteen years working in opera houses and theaters throughout the USA and Europe, assisting stage directors such as Peter Sellers, Francesca Zambello and Deborah Warner. He was Head of Production at the Paris Opera from 1994-1997, a staff stage director for the Netherlands Opera in the late 1980’s and production manager for two World Festivals of Sacred Music in Los Angeles in 1999 and 2002 produced by Judy Mitoma of UCLA’s Center for Intercultural Performance.

SUON, Bun Rith is a Cambodian national, currently working as Country Director for AMRITA Performing Arts, a non-profit organization for the promotion and development of Performing Arts in Cambodia. Bun Rith was the first Cambodian to be awarded an Asian Scholarship Foundation grant to conduct a nine-month research internship on Arts Management in Indonesia in 2003. Two years later, in honor to his significant contributions to the revitalization and promotion of performing arts in Cambodia, he was granted an Asian Cultural Council / Kenneth Fung & Nelly six month fellowship for arts and theater management in the United States. Rith earned his BA in Khmer Literature from the Royal University of Phnom Penh in 1995 and was recruited as a high school teacher a year later. He worked for UNESCO Phnom Penh as an Intangible Cultural Heritage Specialist, and has assisted the Royal University of Fine Arts and other arts organizations with numerous projects since 1998. He is specialized in arts administration, management and capacity building, and has participated and presented papers in numerous professional conferences and festivals in both Cambodia and abroad. |

SIN, Sokunthea (Office Manager) was born in Phnom Penh in 1983 and holds numerous educational degrees in English and business management. Prior to joining Amrita Performing Arts, Kunthea held various positions at DAIHO Corporation and the University of Cambodia and has been an active volunteer with SSEAYP International Cambodia. Kunthea manages and maintains Amrita’s busy office and daily rehearsal studio activities. |
