Mary Slawson, Member

Mary Slawson’s passionate commitment to cultural diversity and conservation is attested to by a lifetime of engagement and learning.  Having enrolled as a Peace Corps volunteer in 1963, she move to Lahore, Pakistan.  In Brussels Mary established Le Voluntariat de Croix Rouge, providing help in schools and hospitals.  Mary hold certificates from the Universite de Lausanne, University College London, Universite de Bruxelles, Hunter College, Marymount College, Marylhurst University where she received her BA.  In 1977 she founded Penny Shistle Toys in NY and in 1982 became Director of Marketing and Sales for Ginsberg Corporation.  In 1987 she joined the board of the Merola Opera, San Francisco where she was to remain for over 20 years.  Mary has also served on the boards of the Institute of International Education, Summerbridge, Chanti Cler and the Margaret de Biever Mondavi Opera House as well as one of the founding board members for Amrita Performing Arts.  In the UK, Mary is a Patron of Asia House, the Bhavan Community Center and has served on the board of Arts World Wide.  She is a Fellow of the Royal Geographic Society, where she and her husband Paul have established the Slawson Fellowship.
